Dublin Core meta tags plugin for WordPress with HTML5 syntax

Dublin Core meta tags plugin for WordPress with HTML5 syntax

I wrote a little WordPress plugin for adding Dublin Core metadata.

Dublin Core metadata

Dublin Core metadata is a set of standards, used to describe “things” to make them discoverable.

The Dublin Core metadata terms are a set of vocabulary terms which can be used to describe resources for the purposes of discovery.

This plugin only deals with the DC Metadata Element set v1.1:

  • Contributor
  • Coverage
  • Creator
  • Date
  • Description
  • Format
  • Indentifier
  • Language
  • Publisher
  • Relation
  • Rights
  • Source
  • Subject
  • Title
  • Type

WP Dublin Core Metadata

The elements above get, if they have a value, added to the <head>. The values get determined automatically, but most values can be overwritten on individual posts.

Unlike other WordPress plugins, this one let’s you pick a syntax: HTML4, XHTML or HTML5. This is great, since the current plugins don’t support HTML5.

Since Dublin Core Element Set v1.1 describes documents, the meta tags only get added on pages, posts and custom post types.
